JCMI THRU THE YEARS

rabbimaline.jpg

I am a comparative newcomer to JCMI upon assuming the position of Rabbi in mid-August, 2008. Since I came here, I have been hearing from so many how friendly, welcoming and warm the congregation is to everyone who passes through our portals.
I can honestly say, from my personal experience that this is so true. I have served several congregations in my career, and have found none that compares with JCMI in terms of warmth, friendliness, and a welcoming spirit.
Some years ago, there was a series of books written by Stephen Birmingham about Jews who immigrated to American from Europe and were greeted by fellow Jews who helped them adjust to life in America. He described the feeling those Jews experienced by a German word: "Familiengefuhl". That is precisely the phenomenon I have experienced here at JCMI among our members - a "family" feeling. Each member becomes part of this family, each is embraced and welcomed and shown love and caring. That is the strength and uniqueness of JCMI, and let us pray that this feeling will be with us for many years to come as we labor together in God's service.
